Jolly Numskull is the art of Benji Paffel. Benji uses wood and creates shapes and patterns and sometimes adds a kinetic aspect to make things even more interesting. Benji’s work is bright, bold, unique and wicked cool.

He’s making his DEVIATE debut this year and is hoping to have some of his moving works on display along with some of his larger pieces. You do not want to miss Benji’s booth as there will definitely be something that catches your eye and your attention. Check him out this September in downtown Beloit.

Tell us about you. I create art utilizing plywood to create layers and dimensions. Occasionally adding kinetic aspects by adding a motor. I also create stylized illustrations and graphics digitally.

What inspires your art? Juxtapositions are a strong theme in a lot of my work. Darker concepts with a quirky, lighthearted twist.

Knowing DEVIATE is an experiential, interactive art event, how do you envision participating and building your booth? I would love to display some of my kinetic pieces that move continuously. As well as displaying larger eye-catching pieces while still offering plenty of smaller grab and go pieces.

How did you find out about DEVIATE and why do you want to be involved? I found it on Instagram and was very intrigued. These are the type of events I wish were more prominent in Wisconsin.
